about
Captured in part using a handheld cassette player from the ‘70s, Tongue-Tied seamlessly blends rich, saturated tones and hues with a poignant sense of nostalgia. With a knack for crafting memorable melodies, Grammy-nominated Frances England's Oscilla project is deeply rooted in emotion and atmosphere. Drawing comparisons to Elliott Smith + Innocence Mission + Boards of Canada, Frances and producer Omar Akrouche beckon listeners to immerse themselves in their gentle, painterly soundscapes and become enveloped in the memories that Oscilla songs evoke.
Cover art was shot on 35mm film by Frances using a "film soup" technique of soaking the film canister in lemon juice, kosher salt and boiling water to manipulate the film's chemical properties. The loose experimental film process reflects the recording process she and Omar dived into last summer when they recorded the tracks for Oscilla's upcoming EP, Drink Up the Sun, releasing May 25, 2024.
lyrics
TONGUE-TIED
July, cherry juice stains on your chin and fingers
Sweet grass almost knee high
Rolling down the windows past the field and pine trees
Power lines flash by
Counting the days, there you go now
Awake in my heart
Counting the days, there you go now
Don't be selling yourself short
Tongue-tied, when you come see me with your curly brown hair
and light green eyes
So shy, always love to see you and I wonder what you're thinking
behind those watchful eyes
Counting the days, there you go now
An ache in my heart
Counting the days, there you go now
Don't be selling yourself short
As the leaves reach for the sun,
Catching the light, noticing one by one,
All the growing yet to be done,
Oh, to live in this moment with you
There you go now (always love to see you, always love to see you)
There you go now (always love to see you, always love to see you)
There you go now (always love to see you, always love to see you)
